Liberty Prevails

By twenty-nine votes, The South Carolina Aquarium’s rescued bald eagle naming contest comes to an end

Charleston, S.C. — Friday, July 4, 2008 — The South Carolina Aquarium and McDonald’s Charleston are pleased to announce Liberty as the winning name for the rescued American bald eagle naming contest. An extremely tight race, Liberty beat out second place ‘Bert, (pronounced BEAR) in honor of Stephen Colbert, Charleston native, host of Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" and self-proclaimed "personification of America” by only twenty-nine votes.

Come meet and celebrate Liberty this Fourth of July with the Aquarium at the Fourth of July Celebration on the Harbor. Give your grill a break and enjoy a tasty Bar-B-Q dinner from Jim ‘N Nicks featuring pulled pork and chicken, potato salad and more, dessert by Cupcake, cold refreshments by Pepsi, live entertainment by Lee Edwards Entertainment and spectacular fireworks overlooking the Charleston Harbor courtesy of Patriots Point. The Fourth of July Celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. and ends after the fireworks. Tickets are $55 for adults, $25 for children (2 and under are free). Tickets include beer, refreshments and food.
